Why Electronic Ballasts?

Electronic ballasts are standard drivers for low-pressure and amalgam lamps in the water and air purification industry - with significant energy and money savings in nearly all applications. The lamp operation is flicker free and the ballast produces virtually no noise or hum.
The incoming 50/60 Hz power (115 or 230 volts) is converted to high-frequency AC (usually 20 to 40 kHz). This leads to a constant gas discharge compared to conventional ballasts (KVG) and prevents cathode flicker.
Electronic ballasts are more efficient than magnetic ballasts in converting input power to the proper lamp power. The operation of UV-lamps at higher frequencies reduces end losses, resulting in an overall lamp-ballast system efficiency increase of 15% to 20%.
Electronic ballasts are directly interchangeable with magnetic ballasts and operate with most UV-lamps available.

Special electronic ballasts can operate two or four lamps reducing the total number of ballasts in a system. This also reduces installation and field wiring costs. Other advantages are reduced weight, quieter operation and reduced lamp flicker.

Beside the established "standard ballasts" we offer ballasts with "enhanced operation features" for stable operation even with long cables. The ZED "controllable and adjustable ballasts" allow a comfortable integration into automated UV systems. UV lamp operation can be optimized and permanently monitored via RS485 using ModBus or ZCON protocol. (Since the UV-C lighting is beyond the scope of lighting rooms DALI is not implemented.)
